2014 Conversation Themes & Topics: Share your feedback & ideas

The results are in from our 2014 community themes survey!

Community members were asked to select a value that represented how much each theme (listed below) was relevant to their work. By understanding how relevant these themes are, we would be able to identify conversation topics that will be of interest to our community in 2014. We added up the values assigned to each theme (2 = very relevant, 1 = somewhat relevant, and 0 = not relevent) and then calculated the average. Here are the results, in order of most popular:

  1. Mobilizing Allies 1.8
  2. Changing Minds 1.7
  3. Building Awareness 1.6
  4. Seeking Justice 1.5
  5. Reducing Fear 1.5
  6. Protecting Those at Risk 1.4
  7. Healing from Abuse 1.3
  8. Resisting and Disrupting Abuse 1.2
  9. Modeling Systems 1.1
  10. Remembering Abuses 1.1

For 2014, we will focus on the top 4 themes. With your help, we'll identify specific conversation topics that relate to each theme. So stay tuned for more surveys!

Jan to March 2014 Theme: Mobilizing Allies

The results of our 2014 community themes survey are in and you have chosen the theme mobilizing allies as the most relevant theme for next year's conversation series. Excellent choice! The next step is to identify the most important conversation topics that relate to mobilizing allies.

I have put together a survey with a list of potential topics:

  1. Coordinating efforts between development, humanitarian, peacebuilding and human rights agencies    
  2. Engaging allies to counter attacks against you & efforts to discredit human rights work / Engaging allies to build credibility    
  3. Maintaining commitment and motivation    
  4. Breaking barriers & building strong partnerships and coalitions    
  5. Engaging non traditional allies (ie companies, government, military, police)    
  6. How to identify your allies    
  7. Training allies in the strategic use of nonviolent resistance    
  8. Collaboration: Why it’s important and how to do it well    
  9. Inspiring nonviolent actions and countering complacency among supporters

Please take a moment to fill out this survey. You'll be asked to select the relevancy of each topic to your work. I'll leave this survey open until mid-December at which point I'll share the results and start working on inviting participants!
